Maria doesn’t have a proper job, but she goes out of her house to help at a mini store in her community. The owner of that place pays her by giving her breakfast and lunch. She has been doing that for a couple of days now. Her husband Manuel works as a driver during the sugar cane season (he was not at home at the time of the interview).
Her house was built over 18 years ago, they made it with a lot of effort using wood, plastic tarps and sheet metal for the roof. The house is not in the best condition for the family to protect themselves from the rain. Their property also gets flooded because it rains a lot.
