María begins her day with household chores and by helping friends in her community, who in return provide her with food or small contributions to help cover the cost of her dialysis treatments. She is unable to work due to serious kidney health issues. Together with Geisel, whom she considers her daughter (24), and Geisel’s baby, Nahum (8 months old) (who were not present at the time of the interview), they are in urgent need of a new home.
Their current house is in poor condition, the foundation is failing, and rainwater floods inside whenever storms strike.
