Mayra Elizabeth Escobar de Silva

During the week, she goes out to sell in nearby communities, offering drinks, tamales made out of corn, sweet bread, and fish. When she stays at home, she takes care of the household chores and looks after her daughter. She prepares all the goods for sale at home, and her husband goes out to sell them. She has been living in the same house for 14 years.

Luis Ernesto Silva Flores

35 years old / Mayra’s husband / small business owner.

Luis goes out to sell sweet bread or fish. His wife prepares the goods for sale before he leaves on his motorcycle or in his pickup truck to sell in other communities.

1 year old / Mayra’s daughter


The house was built more than 25 years ago, which is why it is not a habitable place. The house gets very damp, and the walls, being old, could collapse at any moment.
